Description of the Issue
On 26 June 2024, at approximately 10:35 we detected unusually slow response times from our database. This impacted the performance of various applications and services reliant on the database, leading to degraded user experience.
Immediate Actions Taken
Upon identification of the issue, our database team promptly initiated an investigation to determine the root cause of the slow response times. It was determined that emergency database maintenance was necessary to address the issue.
Resolution
The emergency database maintenance included:
- Index Rebuilding: Rebuilding fragmented indexes to optimise query performance.
- Database Statistics Update: Updating outdated statistics to improve query plans.
- Database Reorganisation: Reorganising tables to reduce internal fragmentation and improve access times.
- Performance Tuning: Implementing identified optimisations' and adjustments to configuration settings.
